Reflection:
The artifact I have selected which reflects this standard is a blog post in which I created to discuss diversity, cultural understanding and global awareness in the class. This blog reflected how I have incorporated my previous job experience in the travel industry to promote global awareness and cultural understanding every day in my classroom. At the same time, I understand how all students do not learn the same way and we must personalize student learning to meet their diverse needs and made learning relevant and engaging to each student.
There were various methods in which I was able to model and facilitate the use of digital tools to support the diverse needs of the students though the use of variety tools mention in the blog. This blog speaks to using Google Earth bringing images from around the world closer to students. Global collaboration is where we want to be students. Skyping with students from places they are learning about or taking virtual field trips make students. Through the use of video conferencing, students were not only able to listen to the different cultural accents but could also see the areas from which the Skype occurred. This made learning much more relevant and interesting versus the traditional reading of cultural differences in textbooks. Another project I facilitated and modeled the use of digital tools to enhance cultural understanding and increase global awareness by creating a blog on the tropic on Palestine and Israeli Conflict.
In the blog, I mention the various tools in which I implement to meet all the needs of my students various needs. The needs could be a variety of learning styles, interest, understanding and capabilities. I have modeled and facilitated a variety of technology tools to meet the needs of the students through tired instruction and differentiated learning. I have used Discovery Education with many of visual learners and through the use of tablets, I can have the read aloud and close caption function turned on for my English Language Learners and my Students with Disabilities. Technology can provide a means to bring everyone on the same playing field.
The work that went into completing this artifact directly impacted student learning. They not only learned about the world around them, but they also learned numerous technology skills through the experience. This impact could be assess through speaking with the students as they have learned from other classmates or viewing the students complete their Weebly pages through for collaboration from others around the world.
